Generac generator maintenance in York, PAIt sits all year. It has to start in seconds.

A yearly service from a Generac-certified technician keeps your standby generator ready for the outage you can’t predict: fresh oil and filters, a tested battery, a checked transfer switch and a full run under load.

The yearly service

What Jamie checks, every visit.

A yearly service goes well past an oil change. It works through the engine, the electrical side and the controls, then finishes with the generator running under load, so you know it will carry the house.

The exact list depends on your make and model. Jamie explains anything he finds and what it will take before doing extra work.

Why yearly

An outage is a bad time to find out.

It starts when it counts
Most no-start calls trace back to things a yearly service catches: a tired battery, old oil, a fouled plug or a fault left on the controller.
Small problems stay small
A loose connection or a weak charger is a quick fix on a sunny day. During an ice storm it’s a cold night.
You have a service record
Your owner’s manual sets out a maintenance schedule. A record of each visit helps if a warranty question ever comes up.

Care calendar

What happens, and when.

  1. Every week

    Self-test

The generator runs a short exercise on its own. You’ll hear it start and stop.

  2. Every month

    A quick look

Check that the status light shows ready and the enclosure is clear of leaves and snow.

  3. After a long outage

    Check-up

Days of running burn through oil life. Have it looked at before the next storm.

Maintenance questions

Before you book a tune-up.

Still have a question?

Jamie answers every call and request within one business day.

How much does Generac generator maintenance cost?

It depends on the generator’s size and model and what the service turns up, such as a battery that needs replacing. Request a service and Jamie will tell you what to expect for your unit before he starts.

How often should a standby generator be serviced?

At least once a year, and again after it runs for a long stretch during an outage. Your owner’s manual lists the exact intervals for your model.

How often does the generator battery need to be replaced?

Batteries wear out with age and weather. Jamie load-tests the battery at every service and recommends replacing it when it tests weak, before it fails during an outage.

Can I maintain my generator myself?

You can keep it clear of debris, watch the status light and listen for the weekly self-test. Oil, filters, plugs, battery testing and checking the transfer switch are best left to a trained technician.

Do you maintain brands other than Generac?

Yes. Jamie maintains Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Champion and Cummins standby generators, including units installed by other companies.
